Our Weekly Special: A Death Cab-Postal Service Success and Other StoriesThe Postal Service
Ben Gibbard is an American singer and songwriter who has formed several bands and collaborated with a number of musicians. Musically he was influenced by Nirvana, Stone Roses, The Pixies and Ultra Vivid Scene and he also cites Jack Kerouac as a major influence. All-Time Quarterback! was Gibbard´s first band which began to reveal a sample of the charming lyrics and melodies that would later be developed in Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. Death Cab for Cutie began as a solo project and the name of the band was taken from the title of a song  written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall and performed by their group the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Ben Gibbard is also the lead vocalist of his side project The Postal Service, whose release of their 2003 Album Give Up was received with a gold certificate and a successful concert tour. Death Cab has released eight albums to date and with the recent release of their new album Narrow Stairs, we take a look at the history of Ben Gibbard´s musical talent, some of his collaborations and some similar artists. . . . Our Weekly Special: The Dark & Light Musings of Tim Burton

Corpse BrideTim Burton is an Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated American film director, writer and designer. His work is often distinguished by its gothic style, poetic dialogue and comic narratives, creating works which maintain a dark eeriness while employing a light-hearted humor. The reoccurring theme of being caught between two worlds runs throughout his work, often looking at the boundaries between darkness and light, life and death, human and non-human, good and evil. He has collaborated much of his weird and wonderful creativity with American actor Johnny Depp and this week our special looks at some of those films which feature Depp at his most eccentric, and also take a look at some classic Burtonesque animation . . . On to the special!
