How To 7: Contribute to the Hitflip Community
Since Hitflip is a community the more that members contribute, the better Hitflip will be. Maybe you have already noticed that some items do not have a cover picture or review yet. In order to increase the usefulness of our tag search we always need members to add tags to media items offered at Hitflip. The more members our community has, the more DVDs, CDs and books will be available here, so you should invite your friends and tell other people about the Hitflip community. Now we will explain in detail how you can contribute in 6 different ways.
1.) Contribute by adding items for swapping
It is obvious. The more items every member of our community offers, the more choices each and every one will have. So, search your home for boxes with DVDs, CDs and books which you do not need any more and offer them at Hitflip for swapping. You can find detailed tips concerning successful swapping in our How to swap more effectively section.
2.) Contribute by uploading pictures
Why should you upload pictures? Well, you have probably noticed that while searching for items it is nice to see the cover picture. It’s the same for the Actor or Author search. If you offer items for swapping you should definitely make sure that you provide pictures if they are not on Hitflip already. See the difference for yourself:
At first glance, which item do you find more attractive? Adding pictures will definitely help to swap your old books, CDs and DVDs faster. Even if you do not offer the specific items, if you have cover, author or actor pictures available you can contribute by adding images.
Uploading pictures is very simple. If there is no cover available you will see no picture in the search and a only a picture with the writing ‘Upload Cover’ on it.
Simply click on the default picture and you will be forwarded to a page where you can upload a cover picture.
Here you are able to browse your hard drive or enter a url in order to provide the location of the cover picture. You also have the option to add a comment, the date when the picture was taken and the location. Those options, however, are more relevant for pictures of actors and authors.
Uploading pictures of authors, artists and actors is similarly simple. If you notice that no picture is provided for an actor or author, simply go to the special page for the specific person by clicking on the name.
then click on ‘upload pictures’
There you will have the same options to upload images as for the cover picture upload.
Please note that images which you upload are not displayed immediately. All images have to be confirmed by at least 3 users. Thus sometimes when there is no cover, actor, artist or author picture there actually might already be a picture uploaded which is not confirmed yet. Images which are not confirmed appear shaded with a grey overlay.
then you have the option to confirm or not confirm the image by clicking on ‘confirm image’. There you have to the choice to rate whether the image is correct, wrong or if it already exists.
If more than 3 other Hitflip members have confirmed the picture it will be displayed
As you can see it not only looks nicer, but also more informative. Please note that you always can add more pictures
Here you can see that there is one confirmed picture of Frank Sinatra and several still have to be confirmed, but you still can add more images.
3.) Contribute by writing reviews and descriptions
Have you ever had the problem that you found the cover and title of a specific movie, book or audiobook appealing and wanted to find more about the content? Although we offer reviews from some other sources, other users would most likely be interested in what you have to say about different products. It is really easy to write a review. Just click on a product you know and check if there is a review already. It there is none, you will see the following:
If you click on ‘Be the first!’ you will get to a page where you can write your review.
Descriptions of actors, artists or authors might be also interesting for many members of our community. If you have information for a specific person you can simply search for them in the search field
or search the actor, artist or author categories in the top navigation.
For more information about searching Hitflip please check our How to find your favourite items page. If there is no description, you will have the chance to click on ‘Be the first!’ for writing your description about the specific actor, artist or author.
4.) Contribute by rating items
Many users are familiar with ratings and most people find them useful. You have the chance to rate items on Hitflip with up to 5 stars. In order to do that, simply go to a specific media item and click on the amount of stars in the ‘Your rating’ area which you think the specific product should receive.
Here we clicked on 5 stars for the Friends DVD. You can see that the average is 3 stars though.
5.) Contribute by tagging items
Have you ever used our tag page in order to search for items? You should definitely try. In order to be provide useful search results however, there must be enough tags given to items. Here the example of our tag page for books:
In order to add tags, you go to a specific product page and go further down on the page to the ‘Tags’ section. There you can enter words and word combinations which you associate with the product. Here is an example for the movie ‘Lucky number Slevin’.
6.) Contribute by commenting and providing feedback
Even if you do not want to write a long description, you can comment on items. All you have to go is to choose a product and then scroll down till you get to the comment section.
Just add a title and your description and then click on submit.
Providing feedback is another very important way to contribute to Hitflip. Do you think the flip price is incorrect? Simply scroll down from the item view and state your opinion.
Simply click if you think the price is too high or too low. If you think the item is in the wrong category, then you can help us by providing your opinion about the appropriate category.
You see, there are many little things you can do which will increase the value of our community. Now that you know, you can start contributing.
