How To 3: Build your Hitflip community
Why should you build up your Hitflip community? Well, swapping is kind of a community thing. Although you can swap with any of your members, it is much more fun if you can chat with friends. Being popular in our Hitflip community will lead not only to many new friends but also to higher swapping rates. If you want to build up your Hitflip community fast just follow these 4 simple steps.
Step 1) Set up your my.Hitflip page
How to set up your my.Hitflip page is described on another How To page. Creating a good profile has many advantages. First of all you should choose a good image. Having a proper image in place makes making friends much easier.Most people trust other online users more if they at least know what they look like.
You also should choose your pseudonym wisely. Do not use pseudonyms which could make people suspicious about your honesty. Online names like ‘fraud99′ or ‘ImAthief’ might sound funny, but will not add to your credibility.
Please also consider what you write in your description. You have the chance to present yourself to the other users. If you do not know what to write, think about what you would tell a person, with similar interests (swapping), that you just met at a party. Would you add Julia to your friends list? She uploaded a nice picture, chose a quite normal pseudonym and her description sounds ok too.
Step 2) Contribute and let others know about it
How exactly you can contribute to the Hitflip community will be explained on the ‘How to contribute to the Hitflip community‘ page. There are several ways to contribute to Hitflip. You can write reviews about your favourite DVDs, CDs and books. In addition, you can add tags to all our products which will improve the search by tag function.You definitely should fill your library with all the books, CDs and DVDs you have.
Most importantly, make your contributions public. Adjust your privacy settings so that everyone can see what you have added to the Hitflip community. Then others will be able to see your reviews and might add you to their friends list. If you choose, they will also be able to see what items are in your library and might want to contact you (write on your pinboard) if they see that you have the same taste.
On the other hand, if somebody swapped an item with you – they may want to see what else you offer and you will then be able to swap more. You can find a description on how to set change your privacy settings here. Again you can check Julia’s page to see how she has already contributed to Hitflip.
Step 3) Search for friends on Hitflip
There are several ways to find friends on Hitflip.co.uk. One way is to go to the bottom of the navigation bar on the right. There you can search for your friend’s pseudonym.
You are not sure if your friend is on Hitflip? or you do not know his/her pseudonym? Just find out! If you know online names your friends use on other websites, just type them in and see if you find them. If not, see Step 4)
A second method to find new Hitflip friends is to check who has visited your profile. Simply go to your my.Hitflip page and check your last visitors.
Maybe they want to become your friends. Check out their my.Hitflip pages by clicking on the picture or name. There you will be able to find out more information about them and add them to your friends list or write a message on their pinboard.
Another way to find interesting new friends is to check out the random users page. Simply go to your my.Hitflip page and go to the bottom of the left navigation bar and click on ‘Random Profiles‘.
There you will find 20 random Hitflip users. Every time you go to this page you will see different users (as a hint, you just have to press the refresh button of your browser). Here is one example of the page:
There is a fourth way to find interesting new friends on Hitflip. Check out our Top Members lists and find very active users. Maybe they will be able to give you some tips on how to swap more effectively. Just go to the start page by clicking on Home in the top navigation and then click on ‘Top-Members‘.
Step 4) Invite friends to Hitflip and tell them your pseudonym
If you can not find enough of your old friends at Hitflip you also have the option to invite them to Hitflip. There are several ways to do that. You could just tell your friends about Hitflip, but then you’ll miss out on the possible rewards we offer for inviting friends. We give you 3 free flips for every new friend you successfully invite to Hitflip. Click on ‘Invite Friends‘ in your right navigation bar
and you will see all options to invite friends to Hitflip. You have the option to tell your friends via our email function but we also provide you with a simple link if you want to invite your friends personally. You can use the link in emails, chat or on forums. If you have a website you can even put an advertising banner on your private website. For those that would rather tell their friends in person, there is an option to print out your personal flyer.
